Don't feel sorry for me. I'm not looking for sympathy after shooting a great big ten pointer, but the reality is that I go through a downer after filling my last buck tag. I don't travel much to hunt anymore with the young family, so when I fill my last buck tag I have three options, focus on shooting does (I've shot most of them already), work in the office (Ugh) or film someone else hunting. I selected option number three and have been out most evenings filming my friend Larry Kendall hunting on our farm. We have just started to see some bucks getting back on food in the past couple of days, but up until then it was really tough.
It is almost as if things shut right off the day after I shot my buck. But it appears they are picking up again.
Our situation is not typical because we are hunting in southern Iowa where the gun season doesn't come in until Dec. 6 this year. In other words, the deer are basically on natural movement patterns here. They likely would be doing completely different things in other parts of the Midwest where the firearms seasons have started.
In any event, if your hunting area isn't getting hammered too hard, you should be able to find them back on the food. Watch Episode 22 if want to see this hunt.
Good luck.
