I found this giant buck floating around the web already.
I don't have the hunter's name yet, but I understand this buck was shot two nights ago (Wednesday evening?). As the story goes, the lucky hunter saw the buck this summer but had not seen him since - until he shot it. Can you imagine what that buck would have looked like in velvet? I can't. I think I would have wet myself on that one.
This buck is one of the most impressive typicals I have seen in a long time. Incredible mass. I am going to take a cut at scoring this thing to see where I end up and when the story fnally comes out, it will be fun to compare my estimate to the actual.
Beams: They look very long - I'll estimate 28 inches
Brows: They are also very long - maybe 10 inches
G2s: I'll guess 12 1/2 inches
G3s: Maybe 13 inches
G4s: 9 to 10 inches (right side is definitely stronger)
G5s: Not sure is the left side has a G5, but I'll give it 3 inches
Mass: Tremendous mass - Say averages 6 inches (24 inches per side)
Spread: I'll guess 23 1/2 inches
Abnormal: only about ten inches.
Total gross: I have him at 233 total gross. If I had to guess on a net typical, I would say it will end up a shade over 200 inches. Very, very impressive.
Congratulations to whoever shot this buck. I'm sure the story will come out soon enough.
